Chapter 5: A New Beginning

Chapter 5: A New Beginning

One year later, Emily walked slowly through the same courthouse plaza.

This time she wasn't alone.

Her little son rested safely in a stroller beside her.

She stopped at the top of the marble steps.

For a moment, memories returned.

Fear.

Pain.

The desperate prayer she whispered before losing consciousness.

Then Harrison joined her.

"You don't have to stand here."

Emily smiled.

"I know."

"But I wanted to."

She looked down at her son, who laughed as a gentle breeze rustled the trees outside the courthouse.

"I want him to grow up knowing something."

"What's that?" Harrison asked.

"That strength isn't about revenge."

She reached for her brother's hand.

"It's about refusing to let evil have the final word."

Harrison smiled for the first time in a long while.

The courthouse behind them remained a place where countless battles had been fought.

Some were won with arguments.

Others with evidence.

But the most important victory that day wasn't a legal one.

It was the simple fact that a mother and her child were still together.

And sometimes...

May you like

that is justice enough.

The End.
