Chapter 1: The Glass That Changed Everything

The crystal glass spun through the air.

Red wine splashed across the white tablecloth as it shattered on the marble floor.

Every conversation in the dining room stopped.

Ava stood abruptly, breathing hard.

"No."

Her voice wasn't loud.

It didn't need to be.

Across the table, Eleanor Whitmore slowly lowered her hand, her smile disappearing.

"I beg your pardon?"

"I'm not drinking that."

A tense silence settled over the mansion's grand dining room.

Ava looked around at the faces staring back at her—her husband Daniel, his older brother Marcus, the family attorney, and Eleanor, the powerful matriarch who ruled the Whitmore empire.

On the polished table sat a leather folder.

Inside was a document everyone expected Ava to sign.

A postnuptial agreement.

According to Eleanor, it was "just a formality."

But Ava had read every page.

It wasn't a formality.

It would strip her unborn child of any claim to the Whitmore family trust if Daniel died before Eleanor.

"You've embarrassed this family enough," Eleanor said coldly.

"Sign it."

Ava gently rested a hand over her pregnant belly.

"I won't."
