The family attorney, Mr. Collins, shifted uneasily.
Ava reached into her purse and placed a small digital recorder on the table.
"I hoped I wouldn't need this."
Eleanor's eyes narrowed.
"What is that?"
"A conversation from three weeks ago."
She pressed play.
Eleanor's voice filled the room.
"If Ava refuses to sign, we'll make Daniel believe she's after the money."
Another voice asked,
"And if that doesn't work?"
Eleanor answered without hesitation.
"Then we'll challenge her fitness as a mother after the baby is born."
The recording ended.
Nobody spoke.
