Chapter 2 – A Father's Fury

Chapter 2 – A Father's Fury
Richard helped Ava back into her chair before turning toward Eleanor.
His voice remained calm.
"Do you know what this leg represents?"
Eleanor forced a laugh.
"A family embarrassment."
Richard looked at his daughter.
"She lost her leg saving two children from a burning school bus."
The guests exchanged shocked whispers.
Richard continued.
"She never asked for medals."
"She never asked for sympathy."
"She only asked to be treated with dignity."
He slowly faced Eleanor.
"And you chose cruelty."
Eleanor's confidence faltered.
"You...you're her father?"
Richard nodded once.
"I am."
He turned toward his chief of security.
"Freeze every pending transaction involving Brooks Holdings until our legal department completes its contractual review."
Daniel looked stunned.
"Mr. Carter, please..."
Richard raised a hand.
"This is not revenge."
"My companies will simply no longer conduct business with people who publicly humiliate a disabled person."
Several executives quietly checked their phones.
Within minutes, news spread that other corporations attending the gala were also reconsidering their partnerships.
Not because Richard demanded it—
May you like
But because no one wanted to be associated with what they had just witnessed.
For the first time in years, Eleanor realized that status could not erase the consequences of her own actions.
