The venue manager did not speak again.
He simply stayed bowed.
Lower than any apology should require.
The leather folder in his hands trembled slightly—not from fear, but from consequence.
Clara did not reach for it.
Not yet.
The room couldn’t decide what it was witnessing.
A wedding.
Or a correction.
Patricia Whitlock let out a short, sharp laugh.
“This is ridiculous,” she said. “She owns the venue? My son is marrying a nobody—”
“Stop talking.”
Clara’s voice was calm.
Not loud.
Not emotional.
But it cut through everything.
Even Patricia paused.
Clara finally turned her head toward the venue manager.
“Stand up,” she said.
He obeyed immediately.
That was when people noticed something strange.
He wasn’t just nervous.
He was afraid.
Deeply.
Personally.
Andrew frowned.
“What is this?” he demanded. “Clara, what are you doing? What contract—”
Clara finally took the folder.
Opened it.
And spoke without looking at him.
“This venue has been in my family for three generations.”
Silence tightened.
“My father rebuilt it after bankruptcy. My mother restored the estate gardens. And I…” she paused, flipping a page, “…bought back the final shares five years ago.”
Her eyes lifted slowly.
“And invited you all here under a private reservation.”
A murmur spread through the guests.
Patricia scoffed again.
“So what? You play business owner now? That doesn’t erase what I just did.”
Clara looked at her.
For the first time, something colder appeared in her expression.
“It does,” she said softly. “Because you didn’t just tear a wedding dress.”
She turned the page.
“You destroyed property under a legally binding ceremonial contract.”
The room shifted.
Even Andrew stiffened.
Clara continued:
“And that dress wasn’t rented.”
A pause.
“It was commissioned. From my personal atelier.”
Her gaze returned to Patricia.
“And insured.”
Silence fell heavier.
