Part Two: The Name She Was Never Meant to Hear

Part Two: The Name She Was Never Meant to Hear

Isabelle walked slowly down the aisle.

Not toward her groom.

Not toward the altar.

But toward the janitor.

Each step heavier than the last.

The guests murmured.

Confused.

Uncomfortable.

Afraid, even.

The janitor looked at her like he had been waiting his entire life for this moment.

“You shouldn’t remember that song,” he said quietly.

Her lips trembled.

“I didn’t choose to remember it.”

Silence.

Then:

“You sang it to me,” she whispered.

The man’s eyes softened.

Something like grief passed through them.

“I was supposed to forget you.”

A gasp rippled through the front rows.

The groom stepped forward sharply.

“Who is this man?”

But Isabelle raised a hand.

Stopping him without looking.

Her eyes never left the janitor.

“Tell me the truth,” she said.

“Who am I?”

The janitor exhaled slowly.

Then said the words that shattered the entire cathedral:

“You are not the woman they told you you were.”

A pause.

Heavy enough to crush the room.

Then:

“You are the daughter of the family they erased.”

The groom froze.

The guests went silent.

Even the priest stepped back.

Isabelle’s knees nearly gave out.

“That’s impossible…” she whispered.

The janitor shook his head.

“I watched them take you.”

His voice cracked slightly.

“And I’ve been watching over what they left behind ever since.”

He held out the photograph again.

And this time—

she finally took it.

Her hands shook as she turned it over.

On the back, written in faded ink:

“If she ever hears this song again… it means they are close.”

Her breath stopped.

And somewhere behind her, the groom quietly reached for his phone.

Not to celebrate.

But to warn someone.

May you like

Because the wedding wasn’t the beginning of her new life.

It was the moment her real life finally caught up to her.
