CHAPTER 3: The Truth Inside the Butter

CHAPTER 3: The Truth Inside the Butter

Within an hour, the breakfast table had become an evidence scene.

The butter dish.

The knife.

The toast.

Everything was sealed and sent to an independent forensic laboratory.

Daniel trusted facts more than fear.

He would wait for proof.

Victoria spent the afternoon insisting there had been a misunderstanding.

She accused Annie of making up stories.

She even offered to postpone the wedding until "everyone calmed down."

Daniel simply listened.

By evening, the laboratory called.

The report was brief.

The butter contained repeated doses of a prescription blood thinner at concentrations capable of causing serious internal bleeding over time if consumed regularly.

Not enough to kill immediately.

Enough to make someone gradually weaker.

Enough to resemble a mysterious illness.

Daniel closed his eyes.

For months...

He had been unusually tired.

Frequent nosebleeds.

Unexplained bruises.

Doctors blamed stress.

The medication explained everything.

Detectives arrived shortly afterward.

When confronted with the laboratory results, Victoria denied everything.

Until investigators reviewed the mansion's security footage.

There she was.

Shortly after midnight.

Standing alone in the kitchen.

Crushing tablets.

Mixing them carefully into the butter.

Just as Annie had described.

Victoria's shoulders collapsed.

She whispered only four words.

"I never meant..."

But no explanation could erase the evidence.

She was arrested before sunrise.
