CHAPTER 4: The Smallest Voice

CHAPTER 4: The Smallest Voice
Several months later, the criminal case ended with Victoria's conviction based on the forensic evidence, surveillance footage, and her own contradictory statements during the investigation.
Daniel sold the engagement ring.
Every dollar was donated to a children's advocacy organization.
He also established a scholarship in Annie's name for children of household employees.
At the dedication ceremony, reporters asked why.
Daniel smiled gently.
"Because courage isn't measured by age."
He looked toward Annie, now laughing beside her mother in the front row.
"Sometimes the bravest person in the room is the one everyone overlooks."
After the ceremony, Annie walked over holding a drawing.
It showed a little girl standing between a man and a bright yellow sun.
She handed it to Daniel.
"I wasn't sure if you'd believe me."
He knelt so they were eye to eye.
"I almost didn't."
"And that's something I'll never forget."
He framed the drawing and placed it in his office.
Not beside his business awards.
Not next to photographs with presidents or investors.
But directly behind his desk, where he would see it every morning.
It reminded him that wealth cannot protect a person from betrayal.
Titles cannot guarantee trust.
And sometimes...
The truth arrives not from experts, detectives, or powerful executives...
May you like
...but from a six-year-old child who chooses to speak when staying silent would have been easier.
The End.
