Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden in Noah's Silence

Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden in Noah's Silence
The Mercer estate felt strangely quiet after Vanessa's arrest.
No one knew what to say.
For years, the mansion had revolved around her rules. Now, every hallway seemed lighter, as though the house itself could finally breathe.
Logan sat beside Noah in the family library.
The little boy remained silent, clutching the stuffed elephant Marina had sewn for him months earlier.
"I'm sorry," Logan whispered.
Noah looked up.
His eyes were no longer filled with fear.
Only uncertainty.
Logan reached into his pocket and produced a small toy car Noah had loved before Vanessa insisted he was "too old for childish things."
"I should have seen what was happening."
A tiny voice finally broke the silence.
"...Daddy?"
Logan froze.
It was the first word Noah had spoken to him in nearly two years.
Tears streamed down Logan's face.
"I'm here," he replied, barely able to speak.
Noah slowly crawled into his father's arms.
Across the room, Marina quietly wiped away a tear before turning to leave.
"Please don't go," Noah said.
He reached for her hand.
"I need Mommy."
The room fell silent once again.
Logan looked at Marina.
She immediately shook her head.
"He doesn't mean—"
"I know what he means," Logan interrupted gently.
"He means the person who made him feel safe."
Marina lowered her eyes.
"I never tried to replace anyone."
"I only wanted him to know that someone would always come when he cried."
For the first time since his wife's betrayal came to light, Logan understood something heartbreaking.
