Chapter 3: A Mother's Final Letter

Chapter 3: A Mother's Final Letter

As investigators searched Vanessa's private office, they uncovered more than financial records and medical reports.

Hidden inside a locked drawer was an unopened envelope.

Across the front, written in elegant handwriting, were the words:

For Logan—Only If Something Happens to Me.

The handwriting wasn't Vanessa's.

It belonged to Emily.

Noah's biological mother.

Emily had died shortly after Noah's birth following unexpected medical complications.

Logan's hands trembled as he unfolded the letter.

"If you're reading this, I hope Noah grows up surrounded by kindness. Promise me that no matter how busy life becomes, he will never feel alone. Children don't remember expensive houses or grand parties. They remember who held them when they were frightened."

The final paragraph shattered him.

"If another woman ever enters your life, I pray she loves Noah before she loves you. Because any heart capable of protecting a child is the heart our family deserves."

Logan closed the letter.

Vanessa had never seen it.

She had hidden it.

For years.

Marina quietly stood by the doorway.

"I should leave," she whispered.

"This family deserves a fresh start."

Logan slowly folded the letter.

"No."

"You've already been part of this family."

"We were simply too blind to realize it."
