PART 3

PART 3
Twenty minutes later, the atmosphere inside the apartment had completely changed.
The officers had taken statements.
Photographs had been taken.
The evidence was obvious.
Meanwhile, Vivian paced furiously across the living room.
“This is unbelievable,” she snapped. “You're destroying this family.”
I almost smiled.
Destroying it?
The family had been collapsing for years.
I was simply the first person to stop pretending otherwise.
One of the officers looked up from his tablet.
“Mr. Parker, we also need to discuss the property ownership issue.”
Daniel crossed his arms.
“There is no issue.”
The officer turned the screen toward him.
“There is.”
Daniel's face lost all color.
According to public records, the apartment belonged entirely to me.
Not jointly.
Not partially.
Entirely.
The title, registration documents, tax records, and prenuptial agreement all confirmed it.
Vivian grabbed the tablet.
Her eyes moved rapidly across the screen.
“No.”
Her voice cracked.
“No, that's impossible.”
“It isn't,” the officer replied.
Daniel looked at me as though seeing me for the first time.
“You knew?”
“I always knew.”
“You let us believe—”
“You never asked.”
That answer hit harder than any insult.
Because it was true.
The officer cleared his throat.
“Given the circumstances, the legal owner has requested that unauthorized occupants vacate the property.”
Vivian's mouth fell open.
“Unauthorized occupants?”
The phrase sounded almost comical.
Three years of arrogance reduced to two words.
Daniel stared at me.
“You're throwing us out?”
May you like
“No,” I said quietly.
“You threw yourselves out the moment you forgot how to treat people.”
