PART 2: THE PEOPLE WHO WERE NEVER INVITED

PART 2: THE PEOPLE WHO WERE NEVER INVITED
The first man walked in wearing a black suit.
Then another.
Then four more.
No guests spoke.
No one even breathed properly anymore.
Because they didn’t look like wedding staff.
They looked like authority.
Margaret frowned immediately.
“Who are you people? This is a private event!”
The lead man held up a folder.
“Not anymore,” he said.
My husband stepped forward.
“Excuse me—this is a private family matter.”
The man didn’t even glance at him.
He looked at me instead.
“Ma’am,” he said respectfully, “we received your call.”
Margaret’s smile faded for the first time.
“What call?” she snapped.
I finally looked at her.
Calm.
Steady.
“The one about ownership verification.”
Silence dropped.
My husband blinked.
“What are you talking about?”
The man opened the folder.
And spoke one sentence that drained the color from every face in the room.
“This venue… is not legally registered under the Whitlock family anymore.”
Murmurs exploded instantly.
Margaret went stiff.
“That’s impossible.”
But the man continued.
“It was transferred six months ago.”

He turned the page.
“To the mother of the child you just assaulted.”
