Chapter 2 – The Agents Who Broke the Lie

Chapter 2 – The Agents Who Broke the Lie
The ballroom doors opened again.
This time, no one turned to look out of curiosity.
They turned out of instinct.
Two federal agents stepped in.
Calm.
Controlled.
Already scanning the room like they had done this a hundred times before.
“Step away from the child,” one of them said.
The woman in black heels stiffened.
“I am his legal guardian,” she said quickly.
“No,” the agent replied.
He raised his badge.
“And you are under investigation for unlawful custody transfer, identity suppression, and cross-border trafficking.”
The words landed like collapsing glass.
The boy lifted his head.
Confused.
Scared.
“Elena…” he whispered.
The woman holding him tightened her grip.
“It’s okay,” she said softly.
But her eyes never left the agents.
Because she knew what came next.
One of the agents stepped closer.
“Ms. Voss… we need confirmation.”
The room held its breath.
Elena looked down at the boy again.
And something inside her finally broke through the silence she had lived in for years.
“Yes,” she said.
“He is mine.”
A wave of shock moved through the crowd.
Because until that moment…
she had never admitted it.
Not publicly.
Not legally.
Not even to herself in any record that survived scrutiny.
The woman in black heels stepped back.
“No,” she said again—but weaker now.
“You gave him up.”
May you like
Elena’s voice lowered.
“I was told he died.”
