Part 2: The Bracelet That Held the Truth

Part 2: The Bracelet That Held the Truth
Victoria opened the bracelet again.
This time carefully.
As if afraid the truth might fall apart if handled too roughly.
Inside was a second compartment.
A thin strip of paper.
Old.
Folded.
Faded by time.
She read it out loud, though her voice shook uncontrollably.
“If she survives, do not search for me. Protect her instead.”
The bride stepped back.
Her breath became uneven.
“That’s not possible…”
But Victoria was already shaking her head.
“I wrote this.”
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Even the groom stopped breathing.
Victoria looked up slowly.
Her voice cracked.
“You were taken from me the night I reported a corruption ring inside the department.”
A pause.
“And I was told you died.”
The bride’s knees nearly gave out.
“You’re saying… I’m your daughter?”
Victoria stood up abruptly.
“I’m saying I buried you without a body.”
The chapel erupted in whispers.
Guests stood.
Some stepped back.
Others raised phones they no longer knew how to use.
But Victoria wasn’t finished.
Her eyes sharpened.
Because something else had begun to form inside her grief.
Suspicion.
Fear.
Recognition.
She turned toward the altar.
Toward the groom.
Toward the system that had protected this wedding.
“No,” she whispered suddenly.
“That scar… it wasn’t just a mark I made.”
Her voice dropped.
“It was a signal.”
The bride frowned.
“What are you saying?”
Victoria’s face darkened.
“I was tracking someone else that night.”

A pause.
“And you were used as leverage.”
