Chapter 1: The Emergency Board Meeting

Chapter 1: The Emergency Board Meeting

The boardroom was already full when I arrived.

Twenty-three executives.

Seven board members.

Three corporate attorneys.

And one empty chair at the far end of the table.

Daniel's chair.

For years, he had sat there believing he was the most powerful person in the room.

Tonight, reality was waiting for him.

The doors opened.

Daniel entered.

Patricia followed.

Chloe stayed close behind him.

All three looked shaken.

The board members barely acknowledged them.

Daniel forced a smile.

"What is all this?"

No one answered.

My chief legal officer stood.

"As requested by the majority shareholder, this emergency session is now in order."

Daniel's eyes moved toward me.

Then toward the documents waiting at every seat.

His confidence began to crack.

"What documents?"

The chairman adjusted his glasses.

"The financial review."

A thick file slid across the table.

Daniel opened it.

His face immediately lost color.

Inside were years of reckless decisions.

Failed investments.

Unauthorized expenditures.

Luxury expenses billed to the company.

Losses he had hidden behind my negotiations.

Profits he had taken credit for.

Problems I had quietly fixed.

The room became silent except for pages turning.

Then came the vote.

One by one.

Every hand rose.

Unanimous.

The chairman spoke calmly.

"Daniel Ward, effective immediately, your employment as Chief Executive Officer is terminated."

Daniel looked at me.

Not angry.

Terrified.

Because for the first time, nobody was there to save him.

Not me.

Not the board.

May you like

Not luck.

No one.
