Chapter 2: The Truth in the Walls

Chapter 2: The Truth in the Walls

The next morning, Ethan returned with a flashlight and a worn notebook.

He carefully examined every painting.

The more he looked, the more he noticed details hidden inside them.

Dates matched real historical events.

Weather patterns aligned with storms recorded decades ago.

Even architectural changes in the house were documented through brushstrokes.

It wasn’t imagination.

It was documentation.

A diary written in paint.

But the woman in the paintings remained the mystery.

Ethan found one canvas that stood out.

Unlike the others, it wasn’t of the house.

It was of the artist himself.

A man standing at a window, watching the mansion burn in sunset light.

On the back of the frame, a note was carved into the wood:

“If they ever call this place cursed, they will have forgotten what was lost here.”

Ethan felt a chill crawl up his spine.

That evening, he went upstairs into the main hall.

The house groaned under its own weight.

But now it didn’t feel abandoned.

It felt watched.

And then he heard it again.

Footsteps.

Above him.

Slow.

Deliberate.
