Chapter 2 – The Truth No One Expected

Chapter 2 – The Truth No One Expected
The ballroom was silent.
Only Noah's cries echoed beneath the crystal chandeliers.
"Mommy!"
He reached desperately toward the woman in the tan uniform.
Her name was Grace.
She slowly pushed herself up from the marble floor, one hand covering the red mark on her cheek.
"I’m okay, sweetheart," she whispered.
"You’re safe."
The words stopped Ethan cold.
He turned to his wife, Vivian.
"Why does my son call her 'Mommy'?"
Vivian forced a nervous smile.
"He's confused."
"She's been his nanny for years."
"Children get attached."
But Noah shook his head violently.
"No!"
"She's my mommy!"
Guests exchanged uneasy glances.
Ethan looked at Grace.
"Tell me the truth."
Grace lowered her eyes.
"I promised I never would."
Vivian stepped forward.
"You don't owe him anything."
Grace took a slow breath.
"I do."
She reached into the pocket of her apron and removed a faded envelope.
Inside was a hospital bracelet.
A newborn footprint card.
And a birth certificate.
Mother: Grace Morgan.
Father: Ethan Carter.
Ethan's hands trembled.
"This...this isn't possible."
Grace nodded sadly.
"Eight years ago, after Noah was born, I suffered severe complications."
"I remained unconscious for days."
"When I woke up..."
"...I was told my baby had died."
The ballroom gasped.
Grace looked directly at Vivian.
"But he didn't."
"He was taken from me."
Vivian's face turned pale.
