Chapter 4 – The Meaning of Mother
One year later...
Sunlight streamed through the windows of a quiet family home.
Noah laughed as he helped Grace bake cookies in the kitchen.
Flour covered the counter.
Chocolate chips somehow ended up everywhere except the bowl.
Ethan smiled from the doorway.
The journey had not been easy.
Counseling had helped Noah understand the complicated truth.
Grace never spoke with hatred about Vivian.
Instead, she told Noah,
"People can make terrible choices."
"But that doesn't mean you have to carry anger forever."
Noah looked up.
"Will you always be my mommy?"
Grace knelt beside him.
"I was the day you were born."
"I am today."
"And I always will be."
He wrapped his arms around her.
Outside, the afternoon sun filled the garden with warmth.
The charity gala had begun as an evening celebrating generosity.
Instead, it became the night a hidden truth finally came into the light.
Not because of wealth.
Not because of power.
But because a little boy refused to stop calling for the woman who had given him life.
