Chapter 2: The Hidden Witness

Chapter 2: The Hidden Witness
“That's edited!” Victoria shouted suddenly.
“It's fake!”
Her panic was growing now.
Desperate.
Uncontrolled.
The lead officer looked unconvinced.
But before he could respond, a new voice came from the doorway.
“Actually, it isn't.”
Everyone turned.
An older woman stood on the porch.
Mrs. Ramirez.
The next-door neighbor.
Victoria's eyes widened.
“No...”
The woman stepped inside slowly.
“I heard everything.”
The room froze.
Mrs. Ramirez reached into her purse.
And pulled out a small recorder.
“My husband passed away years ago,” she said quietly.
“I started recording conversations whenever people came to my door.”
She looked directly at Victoria.
“Three weeks ago, you came to my house.”
Victoria's breathing quickened.
“You said Elena was mentally unstable.”
Mrs. Ramirez nodded.
“And you asked me to sign a statement saying I had witnessed strange behavior.”
Silence.
The officer took the recorder.
Pressed play.
Victoria's voice filled the room once more.
This time discussing forged medical reports.
Custody plans.
And the baby's inheritance.
Elena felt sick.
Not because she was surprised.
Because she finally understood.
This had never been about concern.
Never about family.
Never about the baby.
May you like
It had always been about control.
And money.
