Chapter 3: The Estate That Was Never Hers

Chapter 3: The Estate That Was Never Hers
Daniel nodded toward one of the men in dark suits.
"Mr. Whitaker."
The gray-haired attorney stepped forward carrying a leather briefcase.
"I've brought the documents you requested, sir."
Eleanor frowned.
"What documents?"
Daniel accepted the folder without taking his eyes off his mother.
"Father signed these before he passed away."
He opened the first page.
"The Ashford Estate."
"The family trust."
"The company shares."
Everything.
Daniel slowly looked around at the stunned guests.
"For twenty years, my mother believed this house belonged to her."
"It never did."
He handed the papers to Eleanor.
"The estate belongs to the Ashford Family Trust."
"I became sole trustee the day Father died."
Eleanor's hands trembled.
"No..."
"I've managed this house for years!"
"You managed it."
"You never owned it."
The attorney quietly added,
"Mrs. Ashford, you have been living here as a beneficiary, not as the owner."
The country club wives exchanged shocked glances.
The woman who had spent years boasting about "her estate" had never legally possessed it.
Daniel turned toward the head of household security.
"Effective immediately..."
"My mother is relieved of all authority over this property."
No one moved.

"This is no longer a request."
