Chapter 2: The File

Chapter 2: The File

The next morning, I woke up in a guest suite larger than my entire apartment.

Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city.

Everything felt unreal.

The previous night felt unreal.

Noah knocking on my apartment door himself.

Helping me gather a few essentials.

Driving me to his penthouse.

Hiring private security without even discussing it.

None of it made sense.

By noon, he returned carrying a folder.

His face was grim.

“What is that?” I asked.

He sat down across from me.

“A background report.”

My stomach dropped.

“On me?”

“No.”

He slid the folder toward me.

“On your father.”

I froze.

My father had died when I was twelve.

At least that's what I had always been told.

Slowly, I opened the file.

Photographs.

Business records.

Court documents.

Then I saw a picture.

A younger version of my father.

Standing beside another man.

A man who looked strangely familiar.

I looked up at Noah.

My voice barely worked.

“That's your father.”

Noah nodded.

“Yes.”

The room seemed to tilt.

Nothing made sense anymore.

“My father knew yours?”

“Knew him?”

Noah exhaled slowly.

“They built a company together.”

I stared.

“What company?”

May you like

Noah gave a sad smile.

“The one I run now.”
