Chapter 3: The Truth Behind the Disappearance

Chapter 3: The Truth Behind the Disappearance

The police reopened Benjamin's missing-person case within hours.

DNA testing confirmed what their hearts already knew.

He was her son.

Investigators eventually discovered that, during the chaos of the warehouse evacuation years earlier, Benjamin had become separated from his family.

He had been taken in by a man who never reported finding him.

After the man's death several years later, Benjamin drifted between shelters and the streets, carrying only fragments of memories he could never fully explain.

The little sister who had unknowingly shared her sandwich with him never left his side throughout the investigation.

"My name's Emma," she told him.

"I guess that makes me your sister."

Benjamin smiled shyly.

"I've never had one before."

"Now you do."

Their mother cried all over again.

Not from sadness.

From gratitude.

Months later, Benjamin started school.

He learned what it felt like to sleep in the same bed every night.

To eat whenever he was hungry.

To hear someone say,

May you like

"Welcome home."

Without expecting anything in return.
