Chapter 3: The Secret Ethan Protected

Chapter 3: The Secret Ethan Protected
Several days later, Lily visited Ethan's family home.
While sorting through his belongings, they discovered a small locked box tucked beneath his bed.
Inside were ultrasound appointment reminders, baby name lists, and a tiny knitted pair of blue socks.
Lily covered her mouth.
"He knew..."
Beneath the socks lay Ethan's journal.
Its final entries revealed the truth.
He had learned about the pregnancy only days before the accident that claimed his life.
He had chosen not to tell anyone.
Not because he was ashamed.
Because he wanted to surprise both women after returning home.
One page read:
"Mom has always wanted to be a grandmother. I can't wait to see her face when she meets our little one."
The older woman gently closed the journal.
"He was carrying joy."
"And none of us knew."
For the first time since Ethan's funeral, the house echoed with something other than sorrow.

The baby's soft laughter filled the silence.
It sounded remarkably like hope.
