CHAPTER 3: Between Life and Truth

CHAPTER 3: Between Life and Truth

The doors to the operating room opened.

The child was rushed inside.

But the father didn’t move.

He stood outside the glass, watching through trembling hands.

Inside, Dr. Adllidine moved with precise control—steady voice, sharp decisions, flawless command.

“Clamp there. Suction. Prepare transfusion.”

No hesitation.

No fear.

Only mastery.

But every few seconds, her eyes flicked toward the glass.

Toward him.

Toward a life she had left behind.

The nurse beside her leaned in.

“You know him?”

A pause.

Then quietly:

“Yes.”

The surgery continued.

Minutes stretched like hours.

Finally—

“Bleeding controlled.”

A collective breath released in the room.

The child stabilized.

Outside, the father collapsed into a chair, hands covering his face.

When the doors opened again, he stood instantly.

The doctor stepped out, removing her gloves slowly.

“She’ll live,” she said.

Relief shattered him.

But before he could speak, she added something softer.

“…She has your eyes.”

A silence followed.

Then he asked, voice barely audible:

“Why did you disappear?”

The corridor felt colder.

The doctor looked at him for a long moment.

Then answered:

“Because I didn’t want you to see what I became after I lost everything.”

Her hand rested briefly on her stomach.

A quiet truth neither of them had spoken yet.

“And now,” she said gently, “we have another life to protect.”

The father’s eyes widened.

And for the second time that day—

he froze.

Not from shock.

But from the realization that the past wasn’t finished.

May you like

It had only been waiting.
