CHAPTER 4 — What He Chose

CHAPTER 4 — What He Chose
By evening, the mansion was no longer a home.
It was evidence.
Phones rang. Lawyers arrived. Guards were dismissed.
And in the center of it all, the maid sat wrapped in a blanket she didn’t belong to, holding her stomach like it might disappear if she let go.
The man stayed beside her.
Not as an owner.
Not as a master.
Just as someone who had lost too much time.
The woman in white was escorted out quietly, her protests fading into the distance of a life unraveling.
Hours later, the maid finally spoke again.
“If you don’t believe me… you can do a test.”
He shook his head immediately.
“I believe you,” he said.
A pause.
Then softer:
“I should have believed you first.”
She looked down.
“I thought you hated me.”
His voice broke slightly.
“I thought you left.”
Silence settled between them.
Not empty.
Just new.
The kind that comes before rebuilding.
ENDING
Weeks later, the first time he held his son, he didn’t speak.
He just stared.
Like he was trying to memorize every detail before life got the chance to take anything away again.
The maid watched him carefully.
“Are you sure?” she whispered.
He looked up at her.
For the first time, there was no doubt in his face.
“I already lost you once,” he said quietly.
“I’m not doing it again.”
May you like
And when the baby finally stopped crying and settled between them, it wasn’t a miracle.
It was simply the truth finally allowed to exist.
