Chapter 2 – The Confession That Shouldn’t Exist
The coffin finally broke.
The lid split open with a deep, hollow sound.
Inside…
There was no body.
Only weighted padding.
And a sealed black envelope placed neatly at the center.
The room erupted.
“This is impossible…”
“He was confirmed dead!”
Daniel ignored them.
His hands trembled as he opened the envelope.
Inside was a handwritten confession.
Not a suicide note.
Not a farewell.
A confession.
“If you are reading this, it means I didn’t die the way they will say I did.”
Daniel’s face tightened.
The widow gasped behind him.
The letter continued.
“They forced me to disappear. If I stayed alive, you would all be in danger.”
A second page fell out.
Coordinates.
Dates.
Names.
A hidden operation no one in the family had ever known about.
The funeral director whispered:
“What did your brother do…?”
Daniel swallowed hard.
“I think the question is…”
He looked down at the empty coffin.
“…who buried him in the first place?”
A sudden sound interrupted him.
A faint scratch.
From inside the coffin frame.
Everyone froze.
Daniel leaned closer.
Then heard it again.
Scratch.
Pause.
May you like
Scratch.
Like fingernails dragging from underneath wood.
