The girl’s name was Lila.
She led him through the outskirts of the city, past broken fences and abandoned warehouses, until they reached an old riverside settlement.
“She comes here at night,” Lila said quietly. “She helps people.”
Adrian didn’t speak.
Every step felt unreal.
His wife—Elena Vale—had drowned in a supposed boating accident.
The body had been recovered.
Identified.
Buried.
He had watched the coffin close.
He had kissed the wood.
He had said goodbye.
And yet—
The necklace.
The impossible witness.
They stopped near a small wooden shelter.
Lila pointed.

Adrian followed her finger.
At first, he didn’t believe it.
A woman stood with her back turned, handing food to a group of homeless children.
Her hair was tied simply.
No jewelry.
No luxury.
No identity of the world he once knew.
But when she turned—
Adrian stopped breathing.
It was her.
Elena.
Alive.
She looked up.
And the moment her eyes met his, she dropped the bowl in her hands.
For a split second, neither moved.

“Adrian…”
