Chapter 1: The Camera Never Lies

Chapter 1: The Camera Never Lies

No one spoke.

The foyer seemed to shrink around the glowing television screen as the CCTV footage replayed again.

Vanessa stood beside Emily's handbag.

She glanced over both shoulders.

Then, with practiced precision, she slipped the diamond necklace into the open bag before calmly walking away.

The timestamp left no room for doubt.

Silence settled over the mansion like fresh snow.

Margaret slowly lowered the hand covering her mouth.

Daniel didn't blink.

His eyes remained fixed on Vanessa.

"You accused an innocent woman," he said quietly.

Vanessa forced a laugh.

"This... this video has been edited."

"It hasn't."

The voice came from behind the crowd.

Head of Security Marcus Hale stepped forward carrying a laptop.

"I pulled the footage directly from the central server five minutes ago."

He connected the laptop to the television.

Four additional camera angles appeared.

Every angle showed the same thing.

Vanessa planting the necklace.

Emily never touched it.

Daniel turned toward Emily.

She still stood exactly where she'd been slapped, one trembling hand pressed against her reddened cheek.

"I'm sorry," Daniel said.

Emily shook her head.

"No, sir."

"I work here."

"I know what people think when something expensive goes missing."

Daniel's expression hardened.

"No."

"I know what they thought."

"And I know they were wrong."

Vanessa suddenly raised her voice.

"You can't believe her over me!"

Daniel slowly looked back.

May you like

"I'm not believing Emily."

"I'm believing the truth."
