Chapter 2 – The Name That Was Never Supposed to Exist

The maid froze.

Not like someone surprised.

Like someone recognized from a life they had been forced to forget.

The child stepped closer.

“Ma…ma,” she repeated, louder this time.

Her small hands grabbed the maid’s dress.

The woman’s face went pale.

“No,” she whispered.

But her voice broke halfway through.

Behind them, footsteps approached.

The father.

The engagement guests.

The fiancée.

“What is going on here?” the father demanded sharply.

But the child didn’t look at him.

She didn’t even turn.

Her eyes stayed locked on the maid.

As if the entire world had narrowed into one truth she had finally unlocked.

The maid slowly knelt.

Her hands shook as she touched the child’s face.

And then—

she whispered something no one else was meant to hear.

“My baby…”

The word hit the air like a collapse.

The fiancée laughed nervously.

“This is ridiculous. She’s confused—children imitate—”

But the maid shook her head.

Slowly.

Painfully.

“No,” she said.

“She remembers.”
