CHAPTER 1: THE MOMENT NO ONE BREATHE

The office didn’t just fall silent.

It stopped existing for a few seconds.

Phones slipped from hands. A coffee cup tipped over, but no one moved to clean it. Even the air seemed heavier, as if the entire floor had forgotten how to function.

The executive remained on his knees.

Still holding her hand.

Still trembling.

“Mom…” he repeated, quieter this time, like the word itself hurt to say. “It’s really you…”

The cleaning woman shook her head in disbelief, lips parting but no sound coming out. Her free hand gripped the handle of the mop behind her like it was the only thing keeping her upright.

“I don’t… I don’t know you,” she finally whispered.

But her voice cracked at the end.

May you like

Because something inside her did know him.

Even if her memory refused to catch up.
