Chapter 1: The Truth Beneath the Music

Chapter 1: The Truth Beneath the Music

For a moment, nobody moved.

The little girl stood in the doorway, her tiny hands gripping the frame as if she were afraid someone might pull her away.

“Is that my mommy?” she asked again.

Lucia's entire body trembled.

Years.

Years of wondering.

Years of imagining this exact moment while staring at photographs she wasn't allowed to keep.

And now her daughter stood only a few feet away.

“Yes,” Lucia whispered through tears. “Yes, sweetheart. I'm your mommy.”

The child burst forward.

Lucia dropped to her knees just in time to catch her.

The impact nearly knocked the breath from her lungs.

Tiny arms wrapped around her neck.

“Mama...” the girl sobbed.

Lucia buried her face in her daughter's hair and cried harder than she ever had in her life.

Upstairs, the party had completely stopped.

Every guest watched.

Every musician stood silent.

Every servant froze.

Alejandro couldn't take his eyes off them.

His daughter.

His daughter had spent years without her mother.

And somehow he had never known.

Slowly, he turned toward the woman in the emerald dress.

Valeria.

The woman he had planned to marry.

The woman he trusted.

The woman who suddenly looked terrified.

“You told me Lucia abandoned the baby,” Alejandro said quietly.

Valeria swallowed.

“You were grieving. I was protecting you.”

“Protecting me?”

His voice became colder.

“You forged letters.”

Valeria shook her head.

“You don't understand—”

“You told hospital staff she wasn't allowed to visit.”

“Alejandro—”

“You paid people to keep them apart.”

Guests exchanged stunned glances.

The accusations were too specific.

Too certain.

Because Alejandro already knew.

Earlier that evening, after finding Lucia in the kitchen, something had felt wrong.

He had quietly called his lawyer.

And the answers had come quickly.

Very quickly.

Phone records.

Payments.

False statements.

Years of lies.

Everything pointed to one person.

Valeria.

“No,” she whispered.

But her voice carried no conviction.

Alejandro stared at her.

“Get out.”

The words were calm.

Far more frightening than shouting.

“Alejandro, please—”

“Leave my house.”

The room remained silent as security stepped forward.

Valeria looked around desperately, searching for support.

Nobody moved.

Nobody defended her.

Within minutes, she was gone.

And for the first time in years, Lucia sat beside her daughter without fear.
