CHAPTER 2: WHAT WAS NEVER SAID

CHAPTER 2: WHAT WAS NEVER SAID

Outside the ballroom doors, the air felt colder than expected.

The groom paused for a moment, letting his mother sit on a nearby marble bench. She avoided his eyes.

“You shouldn’t have come here alone,” he said quietly.

She gave a tired smile. “I just wanted to see you happy one time… before I couldn’t anymore.”

That line landed harder than anything inside the wedding ever did.

Inside, muffled through the thick doors, the bride’s voice could still be heard faintly. Not shouting now. Just… collapsing.

The groom didn’t turn back.

But his expression changed.

Not anger anymore.

Something heavier.

Regret mixed with exhaustion.

“I told her about you,” he said suddenly.

His mother looked up.

“I told her you were shy. That you don’t like crowds. That you get nervous in big places…”

He swallowed.

“I didn’t think she’d ever treat you like you were nothing.”

The old woman shook her head gently.

May you like

“People don’t always listen when they’re in love,” she said.

That sentence lingered in the air like a warning no one had taken seriously in time.
