"She's very lucky."
"The cut looks frightening, but there is no permanent brain injury."
Evelyn finally allowed herself to cry.

But because her daughter had spent the entire ambulance ride repeating the same sentence.
"I didn't steal it, Mommy."
Hours later, Detective Harris arrived.

"So Sophie would be sitting directly beneath the security camera."
Evelyn frowned.

The detective opened a folder.
