Chapter 3 – The Man Who Came Home Too Late
Seventy-two hours after he left the honeymoon suite, Nathan returned.
Not as a husband.
Not as a CEO.
But as a man trying to recognize a life that no longer responded to him.
The gates of the estate remained closed.
Higher than he remembered.
Stranger than he remembered.
Guarded by people he did not recognize.
“Open the gate,” he demanded.
No response.
He stepped closer.
“Tell her I’m here.”
One of the guards finally looked at him.
“I’m sorry, sir. There is no record of your access.”
Nathan laughed sharply.
“This is my home.”
A pause.
Then the guard replied calmly:
“No, sir.”
“It isn’t.”
Nathan’s phone buzzed.
Then again.
Then nonstop.
Notifications from banks.
Law firms.
Board members.
Shareholders.
Every message carried the same truth in different language:
TERMINATION. WITHDRAWAL. TRANSFER COMPLETE.
His breathing changed.
For the first time since the wedding night…
panic replaced arrogance.
He pressed the intercom.
“Let me talk to my wife.”
The guard hesitated.
Then answered:
“She is not available.”
Nathan froze.
“What do you mean she’s not available?”
A longer pause followed.
