Chapter 10 — The Night the Wedding Ended

Chapter 10 — The Night the Wedding Ended
The wedding began at sunset.
Not because Julian and Elena were ready.
Not because they wanted it.
Because Valewood Mansion had its own understanding of time.
The family did not wait for people.
People waited for the family.
The ballroom was transformed.
Hundreds of candles burned along the walls.
White flowers covered every surface.
The musicians played a beautiful melody that sounded almost mournful.
Guests arrived dressed in their finest clothes, unaware that they were attending something much darker than a wedding.
A performance.
A ceremony.
A carefully designed illusion.
Julian stood near the altar wearing the same tuxedo he had chosen before discovering the truth.
But he felt like a different person.
The man who entered Valewood Mansion believed he was marrying a woman.
The man standing there now knew he was standing inside a century-old battle.
Across the room, Elena appeared.
The guests whispered.
She looked perfect.
The dress.
The veil.
The smile.
Everything.
But Julian saw what nobody else saw.
Her hands were shaking.
Victoria walked beside her.
Not like a mother giving away her daughter.
Like a commander escorting a soldier into battle.
When Elena reached the altar, Victoria placed her hand on her daughter's shoulder.
A small gesture.
Almost affectionate.
But Julian noticed Elena flinch.
The priest began speaking.
The words were traditional.
Love.
Commitment.
Forever.
But the real vows were written somewhere else.
In the Bloodline Agreement.
In the hidden contracts.
In the secrets beneath the mansion.
"Do you, Elena Valewood, accept—"
The doors exploded open.
Everyone turned.
A man stood there.
Older.
Exhausted.
But alive.
The room froze.
Elena whispered:
"Father?"
Julian looked at her.
Her father?
The man everyone believed was dead.
Richard Valewood stepped into the ballroom.
The guests began whispering.
Victoria's expression changed.
For the first time, Julian saw genuine fear.
"Impossible."
Richard smiled sadly.
"That's what you told everyone."
The entire room fell silent.
Victoria stepped forward.
"You died."
Richard looked at her.
"No."
A pause.
"You needed me to be dead."
Julian felt the entire foundation of the story shift again.
Elena stared at her father.
"I thought you abandoned us."
Richard's face broke.
"I never abandoned you."
He looked at Victoria.
"She made sure you believed that."
The guests looked confused.
Victoria regained control.
"Remove him."
Security moved forward.
But nobody moved.
Because even the guards knew something had changed.
Richard looked at Elena.
"Your mother told you I betrayed the family."
Elena nodded slowly.
"She said you ran away."
"I was trying to expose them."
Silence.
"I discovered the agreement."
Julian looked at him.
"The Bloodline Agreement?"
Richard nodded.
"I discovered what they had done to generations of people."
Victoria's voice became cold.
"You have no idea what you are talking about."
Richard looked at her.
"I know exactly what I'm talking about."
He removed a small device from his pocket.
"A recording."
Victoria's face changed.
Richard continued.
"Everything."
"The contracts."
"The threats."
"The disappearances."
"The manipulation."
A murmur spread through the guests.
For the first time, the Valewood name began to crack.
Victoria turned toward Elena.
"Do not listen to him."
Elena stared at her mother.
"Why?"
A simple question.
But it carried years of pain.
"Why did you make me hate my father?"
Victoria remained silent.
That silence answered everything.
Julian stepped forward.
"This wedding is over."
Victoria looked at him.
"You think you can walk away?"
"No."
Julian looked around the room.
"I think we can."
A sudden movement.
The ballroom doors locked.
The guests gasped.
Victoria had planned for this.
Of course she had.
"Nobody leaves until this matter is resolved."
Julian looked at Elena.
She looked terrified.
But then something changed.
She stepped away from her mother.
"Unlock the doors."
Victoria stared.
"Excuse me?"
Elena's voice grew stronger.
"I said unlock the doors."
The room went silent.
Because everyone heard it.
Not Elena the obedient daughter.
Elena the woman who had finally stopped being afraid.
Victoria approached slowly.
"You don't understand what you're doing."
"No."
Elena shook her head.
"I understand for the first time."
"You taught me that family comes before everything."
A pause.
"But you forgot something."
Victoria stopped.
"Family is supposed to protect people."
Elena looked around the room.
"Not destroy them."
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then the lights went out.
Complete darkness.
A scream.
A crash.
Footsteps.
Someone shouted.
When the emergency lights returned, Victoria was gone.
So was the Bloodline Agreement.
And so was Richard.
Julian found Elena near the altar.
She looked devastated.
"She took him."
Julian understood.
Victoria had not lost.
She had simply changed the battlefield.
Then Julian noticed something on the floor.
A piece of paper.
A message.
Written in Victoria's handwriting.
"You wanted the truth."
"Now you will learn the price of it."
Below that:
"Come to the place where the first vow was broken."
Julian looked at Elena.
"The basement?"
Elena shook her head.
"No."
Her face became pale.
"There is another place."
"Where?"
She whispered:
"The original Valewood chapel."
The place where the first marriage began.
And where the first betrayal happened.
The wedding was over.
May you like
But the war had just begun.
