CHAPTER 3 THE PERFECT FAMILY LIE

CHAPTER 3

THE PERFECT FAMILY LIE

The Salcedo mansion had always been described as a dream.

A palace above the city.

A symbol of success.

A place where powerful people gathered to celebrate achievements, make deals, and create history.

But Mariana knew something now.

The most beautiful houses often protected the ugliest secrets.

For twenty-five years, she had lived inside a lie.

And she had called it home.

The morning after discovering Adrian Vale's name, Mariana could not sleep.

Every memory from her childhood had become a question.

Every photograph had become suspicious.

Every conversation had a hidden meaning.

She remembered her fifth birthday.

The giant cake.

The expensive gifts.

The hundreds of guests.

Everyone smiling.

Everyone saying:

"Look at the beautiful Salcedo family."

But Mariana remembered something else.

Something small.

Something she had ignored.

A woman standing outside the ballroom.

Watching her.

Crying.

At the time, Mariana thought she was a stranger.

Now she wondered.

Was it Sofia?

Was her real mother standing only meters away while another woman celebrated raising her?

Daniel Vega sat across from her at the small coastal apartment.

He had spent the entire night organizing old documents.

"You need to understand something, Mariana."

"What?"

"Rodrigo Salcedo does not hide secrets because he is ashamed."

Daniel looked at her seriously.

"He hides secrets because they give him power."

Mariana looked at the files.

"So everything was planned."

"Almost everything."

"Almost?"

Daniel hesitated.

"There are things even I don't know."

That answer bothered her.

Because uncertainty was exactly what Rodrigo used against people.

He controlled what others knew.

And he controlled what they believed.

"Tell me about Adrian Vale."

Daniel became quiet.

For the first time since they met, Mariana saw fear in his eyes.

"You know that name?"

"He's my biological father."

Daniel looked shocked.

"Where did you find that?"

"The cloud."

Daniel stood immediately.

"The cloud is still active?"

Mariana nodded.

Daniel walked toward the window.

"That's impossible."

"Why?"

"Because Rodrigo destroyed that system."

Mariana frowned.

"He didn't."

"No."

Daniel turned around.

"He tried."

Thirty years earlier.

Before the Salcedo empire.

Before the billions.

Before the perfect image.

Rodrigo Salcedo was a businessman struggling to survive.

His company was failing.

His investors were leaving.

His reputation was collapsing.

Then Adrian Vale entered his life.

A financial genius.

A man who could turn failing companies into powerful corporations.

Together, Rodrigo and Adrian built what would become Salcedo Industries.

But there was one difference.

Adrian cared about the truth.

Rodrigo cared about winning.

And eventually, those two things became impossible to balance.

"Adrian discovered Rodrigo was using illegal methods," Daniel explained.

"Money laundering?"

"Worse."

Mariana looked at him.

"What could be worse?"

Daniel opened an old document.

A report.

At the top:

PROJECT HELIOS

Mariana read the first page.

Her expression changed.

"What is this?"

Daniel looked uncomfortable.

"Something Rodrigo wanted erased."

Project Helios was not just about money.

It was about influence.

Rodrigo had created a private network.

Politicians.

Judges.

Police officials.

Media executives.

People who owed him favors.

People who could make problems disappear.

"He built a system where nobody could touch him," Daniel said.

Mariana looked at the document.

"So Adrian found out."

"Yes."

"And Sofia?"

"She helped him."

Mariana understood.

Her parents had not killed her because of a family embarrassment.

They had killed her because the truth threatened an empire.

That night on the yacht, Mariana remembered something.

Something strange.

Before Rodrigo pushed her, he had said:

"You found something you shouldn't have."

At the time, she thought he meant financial documents.

But now she understood.

She had found Project Helios.

She had found proof that her perfect family was built on corruption.

And she had discovered something else.

Something about herself.

Mariana returned to the cloud.

The hidden files were still there.

She searched:

Adrian Vale.

Hundreds of results appeared.

Most were encrypted.

But one video was available.

Created twenty-five years ago.

The date made her freeze.

The year she was adopted.

She clicked.

The video opened.

A young Adrian Vale appeared.

He looked nothing like the monster Rodrigo described.

He looked kind.

Tired.

Broken.

He stared directly into the camera.

"If you are watching this..."

He paused.

"Then Rodrigo failed."

Mariana leaned closer.

"I don't know who will find this recording. Maybe Sofia. Maybe Mariana."

Her heart stopped.

He knew her name.

"If you are my daughter..."

The video froze for a second.

Mariana covered her mouth.

"My daughter..."

The words she had never heard.

Not from him.

Not from anyone.

Adrian continued.

"I need you to know something."

His eyes became filled with sadness.

"You were never abandoned."

Mariana felt tears falling.

"Sofia fought for you."

The screen flickered.

"She spent years trying to bring you back."

Then Adrian said something that changed everything.

"But Rodrigo did not steal you because he wanted a child."

A pause.

"He stole you because you were evidence."

Mariana stopped breathing.

Evidence.

"Your existence proves what he did."

The video ended.

For several minutes, Mariana said nothing.

Then Nico walked into the room.

"Mama?"

She quickly wiped her tears.

"What happened?"

He looked at the laptop.

"Why are you crying?"

Mariana smiled sadly.

"Because Mama learned something."

"What?"

She hugged him.

"That people can lie."

Nico thought for a moment.

"Like bad people?"

Mariana looked toward the screen.

Toward Rodrigo.

"Sometimes the worst lies come from people who say they love you."

Meanwhile, at the Salcedo mansion, Rodrigo watched security footage.

Not from the yacht.

From Mariana's hospital.

From the fishing village.

From every place she had been.

He had known since the beginning.

The fisherman.

The apartment.

The calls.

Everything.

His people were watching.

Elena entered his office.

"Is she alive?"

Rodrigo didn't answer.

Elena saw the screen.

Her face changed.

For the first time in years...

She looked afraid.

"Mariana found the files."

Rodrigo nodded.

"How much?"

"Enough."

Elena walked closer.

"What are we going to do?"

Rodrigo looked at the screen.

At his daughter's face.

A daughter he never truly considered his.

"We do what we always do."

Elena swallowed.

"Control the story."

Rodrigo smiled.

But this time, there was no confidence.

Only calculation.

"Before she tells the truth..."

He closed the laptop.

"We make the world believe she is lying."

The next morning, every major news channel received an exclusive statement.

From Rodrigo Salcedo.

The headline appeared everywhere:

"MY DAUGHTER IS ALIVE — BUT SHE IS DANGEROUS."

And beneath it:

RODRIGO SALCEDO CLAIMS MARIANA SUFFERS FROM DELUSIONS AND MAY BE A THREAT TO HER OWN CHILD.

Mariana watched the broadcast.

Her face went pale.

Because she finally understood.

The war had begun.

And Rodrigo was willing to destroy his own daughter one more time.

This time...

May you like

In front of the entire world.
