My silence wasn’t fear.

It was confirmation.

I looked at Emily first—not the Prescotts, not the threats, not the expensive confidence trying to fill the room. Just her.

ā€œSweetheart,ā€ I said softly, ā€œdid you give anyone permission to record or restrict your phone?ā€

Emily shook her head.

That was enough.

I reached into my pocket and placed my phone on the bedside table.

The screen was already recording.

Ethan noticed it first.

ā€œYou’re recording this?ā€ he asked, suddenly sharper.

ā€œNo,ā€ I replied. ā€œI started recording when she said ā€˜ruin her reputation.ā€™ā€

Margaret’s expression tightened.

ā€œThat’s not admissible inā€”ā€

ā€œI don’t need it to be admissible yet,ā€ I said. ā€œI need it to exist.ā€

Brandon scoffed. ā€œYou really think this changes anything?ā€

I finally looked at him directly.

ā€œYes.ā€

Just that.
