The next morning, reporters crowded outside headquarters.
No one understood how an invisible shareholder had taken control overnight.
Inside the executive conference room, Lucas burst through the doors.
"You lied to me!"
He slammed both hands onto the table.
"You used me!"
The room remained quiet.
I folded my hands.
"No."
"I gave you every opportunity to become the man you pretended to be."
He laughed bitterly.
"So marrying me was part of some business plan?"
I shook my head.
"I married you because I loved you."
The words hung in the air.
"I believed you loved me too."
His expression changed.
For the first time...
There was genuine regret.
"When did everything change?"
"The day you stopped seeing me as your wife..."
"...and started treating me like someone who should be grateful to sit at your table."
Naomi placed another folder before the board.
Inside were financial records.
Emails.
Wire transfers.
Evidence that Richard and Lucas had diverted corporate funds into private accounts while concealing losses from shareholders.
The independent directors stared in disbelief.
One finally spoke.
"This goes far beyond divorce."
The General Counsel nodded.
"It may also involve fraud."
