CHAPTER 4 — THE WOMAN WHO WALKED AWAY

CHAPTER 4 — THE WOMAN WHO WALKED AWAY
Six months later, the company unveiled its new headquarters.
The name above the entrance had changed.
So had the culture.
Employees who had once feared speaking openly now helped shape decisions.
Transparency replaced intimidation.
Respect replaced fear.
At the opening ceremony, a journalist approached me.
"Mrs. Hale..."
I smiled.
"It's Ms. Bennett again."
The reporter nodded apologetically.
"One question."
"If you had known how your marriage would end..."
"Would you still have married Lucas?"
I looked at the skyline for a long moment.
"Yes."
The crowd fell silent.
"Because that chapter taught me something success never could."
"Power isn't measured by how many people obey you."
"It's measured by how you treat people when you believe they have nothing to offer."
Across the street, I noticed Lucas leaving the courthouse with his attorney.
He looked older.
Quieter.
He saw me.
For a brief moment, our eyes met.
Then we continued walking in opposite directions.
No anger.
No satisfaction.
Just distance.
As I entered the building, Naomi smiled.
"The board is waiting."
I returned the smile.
"So is the future."
The doors closed behind us.
The empire they thought they owned had never truly belonged to them.
And the woman they tried to erase had never needed saving.
May you like
She only needed the right moment to stop hiding who she really was.
The End.
