Chapter 4: A Different Kind of Birthday

Chapter 4: A Different Kind of Birthday

One year later, Valeria celebrated another birthday.

This time, the gathering was small.

Just close friends, her father, and the people who had stood beside her during the most difficult chapter of her life.

When Ernesto handed her a neatly wrapped gift, she smiled.

"What is it?"

"A new beginning."

Inside was a framed photograph of the two of them planting a jacaranda tree in the garden after the legal case had ended.

Its purple blossoms had become a reminder that healing takes time, but it does come.

A journalist later asked Ernesto why he had remained so calm at the birthday party.

He answered with the same quiet certainty that had guided his career.

"Anger seeks revenge."

"Justice seeks the truth."

Valeria looked at her father with gratitude.

He had not saved her because he was a prosecutor.

He had saved her because he listened when his daughter silently asked for help.

As the evening ended, the birthday candles glowed softly once again.

This time, Valeria closed her eyes and made a wish she already knew had come true.

She was no longer surviving.

She was finally living.

The End.
