Part 2: The Ride He Never Expected

Part 2: The Ride He Never Expected

The city bus had barely reached the next stop when three black luxury SUVs pulled up behind it.

Their hazard lights flashed.

Passengers looked out the windows in confusion.

The bus driver frowned.

Then he saw the men stepping out.

Dark suits.

Earpieces.

Professional, calm, and unmistakably trained.

The lead agent climbed aboard.

"Mrs. Robertson?"

Hailey slowly stood, still holding baby Toby.

"I'm here."

The man's expression softened.

"Your father asked us to bring you home."

He carefully carried her hospital bag while another agent offered his arm to help her down the steps.

Outside, a luxury sedan waited with its rear door already open.

One of the agents noticed the pain on Hailey's face.

"Has a doctor examined your incision since your discharge?"

She shook her head.

"No."

"We're taking you directly to Robertson Medical Center."

For the first time in days, someone cared more about her health than a lunch reservation.

Across town, Jasper was halfway through dessert.

His mother laughed as Priscilla showed photos from social media.

Then Jasper's phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

He answered casually.

"This is Jasper."

"Mr. Collins," the voice said.

"We're calling regarding the black Falcon X SUV currently in your possession."

"What about it?"

"The vehicle is registered to Robertson Holdings."

"It is not your personal property."

Jasper laughed.

"My wife gave it to me."

"The registered owner did not."

"There will be a recovery team arriving within thirty minutes."

The call ended.

Jasper stared at his phone.

"What was that?" his mother asked.

"Some mistake."

"It'll be sorted out."

He had no idea it was only the beginning.
