That evening, Jasper drove a rental car to the headquarters of Robertson Global.
He demanded to see Hailey.
The receptionist smiled professionally.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"I'm her husband."
She checked the computer.
"I'm sorry."
"Mrs. Robertson has instructed us not to admit visitors without prior approval."
Before Jasper could argue, the elevator doors opened.
Finnley Robertson stepped into the lobby.
Every employee immediately stood.
Jasper recognized him instantly.
The billionaire whose interviews he had watched for years.
The business leader he had dreamed of meeting.
Finnley looked directly at him.
"So..."
"You're Jasper."
Jasper forced a smile.
"Sir, I think there's been a misunderstanding."
Finnley's expression never changed.
"A misunderstanding?"
"My daughter underwent major surgery."
"You sent her home alone on a city bus while you took my vehicle to lunch."
The lobby became silent.
Employees stopped pretending not to listen.
Finnley took one step closer.
"For two years, I stayed out of your marriage because Hailey asked me to."
"I respected her decision."
"But the moment you showed my grandson that his mother deserved less than basic dignity..."
"You made this my business."
Jasper swallowed hard.
"I love Hailey."
Finnley's eyes were cold.
"No."
"You loved what you believed she could tolerate."
"You never bothered to learn who she truly was."
He turned toward security.
"Mr. Collins has no further business in this building."
As the doors closed behind him, Jasper stood alone in the lobby.
For the first time since his company began to rise, he realized something terrifying.
He hadn't lost his luxury SUV.
He hadn't lost an investor.
He had lost the only person who had quietly protected every opportunity he thought he had earned on his own.
