PART 3 — The Party Becomes a Record

PART 3 — The Party Becomes a Record

The birthday candles were still burning.

Wax dripping onto the cake like time had stopped but refused to clean up after itself.

One investigator looked at Ernesto. “We have enough for immediate detainment of both parties, pending confirmation of financial records.”

Ofelia finally snapped.

“You’re ruining a celebration over family disagreements!”

The advocate didn’t blink.

“This isn’t a disagreement. This is documented coercive control, identity fraud, and domestic violence.”

Valeria flinched slightly at the words.

Not because she didn’t understand them—

but because hearing them spoken aloud made the last year feel suddenly real.

Julián turned toward Valeria, voice dropping.

“Tell them this is ridiculous. Tell them you’re fine.”

For the first time, Valeria didn’t look away.

She looked straight at him.

And shook her head.

No.

Just that.

Ernesto stepped forward again.

“This party was never a celebration,” he said quietly. “It was a stage.”

He gestured toward the guests.

“And now everyone here becomes a witness.”

Phones lifted slowly.
