CHAPTER 2 — The Truth Behind the Locked Nursery

CHAPTER 2 — The Truth Behind the Locked Nursery

The nursery fell silent.

Only the soft hum of the baby monitor broke the tension.

Margaret staggered backward after her son shoved her away.

Her eyes widened with disbelief.

"You pushed me?" she whispered.

"You pushed your own mother?"

Ethan didn't answer.

He knelt beside his wife instead.

"Sophia..."

His hands trembled as he carefully brushed strands of hair away from her tear-stained face.

"Are you hurt?"

Sophia couldn't speak.

She only nodded weakly while trying to catch her breath.

Behind them, baby Noah began to stir inside the crib.

A tiny whimper escaped him.

That sound changed everything.

Ethan immediately lifted his son into his arms while keeping Sophia behind him.

Then he turned to his mother.

"I warned you."

Margaret's expression hardened.

"I was disciplining her."

"You call this discipline?"

He pointed at the clumps of hair still scattered across the nursery floor.

"You assaulted my wife."

Margaret folded her arms.

"She's turning you against your family."

"No."

Ethan's voice became frighteningly calm.

"You did that yourself."

The family staff had gathered outside the nursery.

No one dared enter.

Every servant had witnessed Margaret's temper before.

But never like this.

The housekeeper quietly stepped forward.

"Sir..."

"I called Dr. Harris."

"And..."

"The security cameras recorded everything."

Margaret's confidence disappeared.

"The cameras?"

Ethan slowly looked toward the corner of the room.

A small black security camera blinked quietly above the bookshelf.

His mother followed his gaze.

May you like

For the first time...

She looked afraid.
