CHAPTER 4 — A Home Finally Became Safe

CHAPTER 4 — A Home Finally Became Safe
Three months later...
The mansion felt different.
Quieter.
Warmer.
No shouting echoed through the hallways.
No one criticized Sophia's parenting.
No one inspected every bottle, every blanket, every decision she made.
Baby Noah laughed more often.
Sophia smiled again.
One afternoon, Ethan found her rocking Noah beside the nursery window.
She looked peaceful.
Something he hadn't seen in months.
"I'm sorry," he said softly.
She looked up.
"For what?"
"For believing family deserved endless chances."
He knelt beside her.
"I should have stopped her the first time she crossed the line."
Sophia gently touched his face.
"You stopped her before she could take everything."
Weeks later, the court granted Sophia a permanent protective order against Margaret after reviewing the security footage and witness statements.
Margaret's repeated attempts to contact them were rejected.
She eventually found herself alone, discovering too late that control is not the same as love.
On Noah's first birthday, friends and family gathered in the same nursery that had once witnessed fear.
Now it was filled with balloons, laughter, and music.
As Ethan watched Sophia holding their smiling son, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"This," he whispered, "is what family is supposed to feel like."
Sophia leaned against him and smiled.
May you like
"It finally does."
Sometimes the strongest thing a person can do isn't protecting a house or a fortune—it's protecting the people who call that house home.
