Chapter 2: The House Was Never Hers

Chapter 2: The House Was Never Hers

No one moved.

No one even breathed.

Robert Miller calmly placed a thick folder on the dining table.

"I'm sorry to interrupt," he said. "But this matter can't wait."

My mother folded her arms.

"Whatever this is, it can wait until tomorrow."

"I'm afraid it cannot."

He opened the folder and slid several documents across the table.

"The deed to this property."

My sister reached for it first.

Her smile disappeared almost instantly.

"What...?"

Robert adjusted his glasses.

"Three years ago, Mr. Daniel Brooks transferred ownership of this house."

My mother snatched the papers.

"That's impossible."

"It isn't."

She searched every page desperately.

Then she found the signature.

My father's.

Her hands began to tremble.

She whispered, "He never told me..."

Robert looked at me.

"Because he wanted it to be a surprise."

Everyone slowly turned toward me.

My heart pounded.

"I...I don't understand."

Robert smiled gently.

"Your father knew his illness was getting worse. He worried that after he passed away, family conflicts might arise."

The room was silent.

"So he placed the house in your name."

My mother looked up in shock.

"Hannah owns this house?"

Robert nodded.

"Legally, she has been the sole owner for nearly three years."

The silence became unbearable.

Only minutes earlier, my mother had thrown me out.

Now everyone realized...

She had tried to evict the owner.
