Chapter 1: The Secret Behind the Old Warehouse

Chapter 1: The Secret Behind the Old Warehouse

Nathan couldn't stop thinking about the little girl.

Every evening, she would quietly stand behind his restaurant, waiting patiently. She never asked for money. She never begged. She only smiled when he handed her a bag of food.

One rainy night, curiosity got the better of him.

After giving her dinner, Nathan followed her from a distance.

The girl walked through narrow streets, crossed an abandoned railway track, and finally disappeared into an old warehouse on the edge of town.

Nathan's heart raced.

"Who lives in a place like that?" he wondered.

Carefully, he approached the broken door and peeked inside.

What he saw froze him in place.

There weren't one or two people inside.

There were more than twenty children.

Some were sleeping on cardboard beds. Others were studying under a dim flashlight. A few younger kids ran to the little girl as soon as she entered.

"Emma! Did you bring food?" they asked excitedly.

The girl smiled and opened the bag Nathan had given her.

The children cheered.

Nathan suddenly realized the truth.

Emma wasn't feeding herself.

She had been sharing every meal with a group of homeless children.

And she had never told him.

As he stood there in shock, an elderly woman stepped out of the shadows.

"You must be Nathan," she said softly.

Nathan stared at her.

"How do you know my name?"

May you like

The woman smiled.

"Because Emma talks about you every day."
