Claire slowly turned toward the crowd.
"I expected more."
No one answered.
"I don't blame you because you're wealthy."
"I blame you because you saw a frightened child..."
"...and decided protecting your reputation mattered more."
An elderly businessman lowered his head.
"I should have stepped forward."
Another guest quietly agreed.
Soon dozens admitted the same thing.
Victoria interrupted.
"This is ridiculous."
"It was only a child."
