Chapter 2 – The Gift She Tried to Destroy
The mansion fell silent.
The little boy clutched the broken wooden box against his chest.
Tears streamed down his face.
"Dad..."
"I'm sorry."
His father knelt beside him.
"You have nothing to apologize for."
He carefully opened the box.
Inside lay dozens of tiny hand-carved wooden stars.
Each one had a word written in childish handwriting.
Hope.
Family.
Forever.
At the bottom rested a folded letter.
The father slowly unfolded it.
Dear Dad... I know Mom is in heaven now. I made these stars so you'll never feel alone. Every time you miss her, you can hold one and remember we're still a family.
The room became unbearably quiet.
Even the housekeepers lowered their heads.
Victoria folded her arms.
"It's still just a cheap toy."
The father stood.
His eyes were no longer filled with sadness.
Only disappointment.
"You didn't destroy a toy."
"You tried to destroy my son's love."
He turned toward the family butler.
"Mr. Harris."
The elderly butler stepped forward immediately.
"Yes, sir."
"Call the family attorney."
"And ask him to bring every document with my signature."
Victoria laughed.
"Oh, please."
"You're overreacting."

The father didn't answer.
Because he had already made his decision.
