The family attorney arrived carrying a leather briefcase.
Victoria smiled confidently.
"I assume you're here to explain to your client that he can't throw me out."
The attorney calmly placed several folders on the dining table.
"I am."
He opened the first document.
"The mansion is held in a family trust."
He opened the second.
"Mrs. Victoria Bennett has no ownership interest."
The third.
"Her residence in this home depends entirely upon Mr. Bennett's written permission."
Victoria's smile disappeared.
"What?"
The attorney looked at the father.
"Would you like me to continue?"
He nodded once.
"Effective immediately, that permission has been withdrawn."
The head of household security quietly stepped forward.
"Ma'am..."
"We've been instructed to escort you while you collect your personal belongings."
Victoria stared at her husband.
"You'd choose him over me?"
The father looked at his son, who was still holding the repaired gift.
"There was never a choice."
"I will always choose my child."
For the first time since entering the family...
